Absolutely Stunning….

8 Aug 2025

For those who pay a moderate amount of attention to our local high street, you may have noticed the installation of some new wooden planters. These planters have been funded by YNYC Lord Mayors Vibrant & Sustainable High Street Project and are helping to re-patriate Silver Street back into our High Street Shopping area.

Our Peculier™ Edible planters are part of a wider project created by Masham Futures Community Partnership and supported by a wide range of local residents and organisations, and hopes to encourage visitors and locals to support our fantastic independent High Street shops.

The Masham High Street Projects all have a Peculier twist, that reflect our status as a Peculier – and the rather quirky, fun and interesting people and places that we have here. The Edible planters are no exception to this, in that they will be planted with edible plants that can be harvested and used in a range of delicious recipes created by our very own Resident Chef – Jon Atashroo from Where There’s Smoke.

The planting has already begun by our small team of locals, with a range of brightly coloured plants such as sunflowers and lavender. For now, the recipe’s may be limited to salad dressings and serving suggestions until the start of the vegetable growing season next year.  At which point our amazing community groups including the Scouts, Guides, Masham Primary School and residents from ‘Maple Creek’ will set about seeding, planting and helping to maintain and harvest the planters.

Residents and Visitors will be encouraged to graze the produce and each planter will have a sign to explain the scheme and a QR code to be able to access the specific recipe that can be created from the plants growing in the planters.

If you would like to be part of our Planters Project, by helping to sow, plant or maintain these planters – or could help maintain the planters or have any plants or seeds you would like to donate to them, then please do get in touch via the MCO.
