VE DAY – Grewelthorpe

6:30pm - 9:30pm

Organised by the Grewelthorpe Branch of the Royal British Legion, the Village Hall and St James’ Church, the week commencing 5th May will have the following events to coincide with the 80th Anniversary of VE Day:

Monday 5th May – Bank Holiday

The Hackfall Cafe will be open from 11.00am to 3.00pm as a NAAFI, hosting a traditional afternoon tea party.

Thursday 8th May VE Day

A short Service of Commemoration and Celebration will be held at St James’ Church at 6.00pm, concluding at 6.30 pm with village children ringing of the ‘Bell for Peace’ as part of the National Event.

The Village Hall Bar will be serving Cocktails and other refreshments from 6.45pm onwards and food will be available in the form of a ‘Hog Roast’ or Vegetarian option during the evening.

In accordance with the National Event, the hymn ‘I Vow to Thee My Country’ will be played at 9.30pm to coincide with the lighting of the ‘Lamp For Peace’
