History of Lead Mining in Upper Swaledale

A talk by Helen Guy accompanied by a Power Point presentation. It covers the history of lead mining in Upper Swaledale from Roman times, including methods of mining, the roles of women and children, miners and their families and the decline of the industry in the late 1800s.
Helen Guy is the Curator of the Old School Museum in Keld and Project Manager of Keld Resource Centre.
