Join MCO’s social minibus day trip to Hopetown in Darlington!
This award-winning railway-themed museum near the centre of Darlington brings to life the story of the Stockton & Darlington Railway – the world’s first public railway to use steam locomotives.
Explore North Road Station Museum, home to historic locomotives, carriages, and interactive exhibits that tell how Darlington’s railway heritage shaped the North East and beyond. Families can climb aboard a replica of Locomotion No. 1, enjoy digital features and selfie screens, and watch real Northern Trains pass just outside.
Experience the Experiment! ride, the North East’s only permanent immersive railway adventure, then head outdoors to Wagon Woods, a huge railway-themed play park with climbing, puzzles and a toddler area. Don’t miss the Skerne Bridge, the world’s oldest working railway bridge, or the Viewing Gallery to see the new Prince of Wales steam locomotive under construction.
Round off your visit in the café and shop, featuring railway-inspired treats and gifts.
Spaces are limited so book in advance at Mashamshire Community Office here or call Tel: 01765 680200
