In this unusual concert, the legendary Gould Piano Trio and renowned clarinettist Robert Plane combine a newly commissioned work by Piers Hellawell to recognise St Wilfrid’s extraordinary legacy throughout the north of England and beyond, with an interactive exploration of chamber pieces including Messiaen’s Quartet for the end of time. Walter Rabl: Clarinet Quartet in E flat major, op. 1, 1st movement Olivier Messiaen: Quartet for the End of Time – movements 4 (Intermède) and 5 (Luange) Gerald Finzi: Five Bagatelles, op. 23 – 3 of the 5Rebecca Clarke: Piano Trio, 1st mov. Piers Hellawell: New Commission: The Rising of Sirius (inspired by St Wilfrid)Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Trio in E flat major, op. 70, no. 2, allegretto Olivier Messiaen: Quartet for the End of Time, excerpts from movement 6 Danse de la furer, pour les sept trompettes and movement 7 Fouillis d’arcs-en-ciel, pour l’Ange qui annonce la fin du Temps (violin solo) Adult Tickets £10 balcony; £20 Ground floor FREE tickets for students, 18s & under plus up to TWO free tickets for adults accompanying an under 18. |
