Gordon is a skilled silversmith, specialising in manufacturing, commissions, repairs, gemstone cutting and polishing — alongside an impressive collection of rocks and dinosaur fossils. Visitors can also bring in their own pebbles, sea glass or found rocks for cutting and polishing.

His workshop is filled with ammonites from 260 million years ago, fossil teeth and a fascinating range of unique jewellery and gemstones. Gordon doesn’t sell online — as he puts it, “Because of the variation of fossils and jewellery, you really need to see it.”

How did you come to run the business?

I am a silversmith with a fascination for collecting stones and fossils. My jewellery brings both of these together. I started craft fairs as an income in 1989 and worked out of a room in the Kings Head in Masham before setting up shop in Silver Street.

Top Sellers:

That would have to be the Gem rainbow and labradorite moon stones.

Most peculier product?

500 Million year old fossil!

Most peculier fact about your product?

I collect the fossils & gemstones myself.

Favourite place:

The Lunchbox sandwich shop – it’s great quality and the staff are always up for a chat!

Inside Tip:

There is still an honesty box in the square and near the recreation ground for parking.
