Rievaulx Abbey, pictured above courtesy of English Heritage, involves an outing over to the North Yorkshire Moors.

The Abbey is located in a tranquil valley and its impressive ruins are of one of England’s most powerful Cistercian monasteries and it is a fascinating visit.  The site is managed by English Heritage.

It is around 25 miles from Masham and takes under an hour to reach. Why not combine this visit with Helmsley Castle, just a little further up the road?
