Masham’s Yorkshire Day 1st & 2nd August 2025
In the Middle Ages, Masham was created as a ‘Peculier’, somewhere that is allowed to charge its own taxes from the people who live there and run its own affairs and we’ve been going our own way ever since.
Only in Masham could you find such a wonderfully quirky and Peculier Yorkshire Event.
Where else could you experience first hand our remarkable Yorkshire hospitality, meet some interesting local characters, maybe learn a little peculier history and go home with such fond memories of a grand day or two out?
In Masham we have so many things to celebrate that we couldn’t fit everything into just 1 day – so we are celebrating over 2 days – now that’s a little Peculier!
Browse our independent shops and see what quirky windows they’ve designed for our event or visit Black Sheep Bistro for a special tasting menu and more. The fun starts with a BIG Yorkshire Quiz on Thursday!
Friday 1st August
Join in the many games, activities and musical entertainment around St Mary’s Church – where young and old can sample their Yorkshire hospitality and their rather fine Yorkshire Fayre.
Saturday 2nd August
Stick around to find out just how strange some of the ‘crimes’ and punishments were in our re-enactment of the ‘Court of the Peculier’.
Back in the day not sending your children to be baptised, forgetting to provide ‘vittals’ for a walk could carry a fine or land you in what could be the UK’s smallest jail. Find out what vile acts the court is ruminating on during Yorkshire Day and terrible punishments they may exact on the brazen locals when you VisitMasham
Enjoy our Yorkshire products in the Market, have a cup of tea and cake, take an active part in our Yorkshire day events or just sit back and enjoy a game of cricket, guess who might win the Yorkshire fancy dress competition whilst the kids get stuck into some wonderful games provided by our local nursery, Yorkshire garden games or get stuck into the tug-of-war or welly wanging on the cricket field.
Today we launch our Peculier Guided History Tours to celebrate Yorkshire Day. Find out about these uniquely peculier tours below!
