Celebrating 200 Years of Railway History at The Station

This month, The Station proudly marks 200 years since the world’s first steam-powered passenger train journey, which departed from Shildon to Stockton on 27 September 1825.

Locomotion No.1’s pioneering 26-mile trip changed the course of global transport – and this momentous milestone will be marked with a special ‘Routes and Branches’ exhibition in our Artisan Gallery.

The exhibition showcases creative works by local artists and primary school children, exploring the people, places, and stories that shaped two centuries of railway heritage. Don’t miss the new video presentation on the Platform, near The Sweet Stop and The Angels Share Bakery, for a deeper look at the history of The Station.

  • Creative workshops including Butterfly Stained Glass and Summer Aromatherapy
  • Platform Pop-Up: Brilliant Books
  • Cinema highlights: The Salt Path, Lilo & Stitch, Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning, and How to Train Your Dragon, with F1: The Movie and 28 Years Later coming soon
