Step aboard the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and join Mad Alice for an immersive journey through the moonlit night. Named after York’s most infamous ghost, Mad Alice’s Ghost Train combines live theatre, costumed storytellers and atmospheric entertainment for an unforgettable Halloween experience.

But hurry, Mad Alice’s presence is for three evenings only, 18 October, 25 October and 1 November, with two services departing each night. It is for adults only and if things get a little too frightening, there’s a complimentary York Gin drink offered to steady your nerves!

Halloween isn’t the only reason to get out and enjoy October. From 16–18 October, RHS Garden Harlow Carr will be celebrating the season with its Autumn Weekend.

Take in the beautiful autumn colours, admire the impressive apple display and discover some of the region’s champion produce at the RHS Late Fruit and Vegetable Competition.

There will also be expert advice, seasonal talks and guided fungus forays, all included with garden entry.

If you’re looking for pumpkins, Spilmans Family Farm in Sessay is the place to go, with an incredible 175,000 home-grown pumpkins and a huge selection of decorative gourds.

Open throughout October, the Pumpkin Festival offers much more than just pumpkin picking, with a pumpkin cannon, tractor rides, spooky walks, giant obstacle course, jumping pillow, pumpkin slingshot, corn cannon, barrel train, marshmallow toasting, fairground rides, carving barn and plenty more.

Step into the shadows and discover the darker side of Harrogate with the town’s original and still the only ghost walk.

Hear tales of gruesome deaths, poltergeists and chilling local legends as your guide takes you through some of Harrogate’s most atmospheric streets.

The outdoor guided walking tour offers three different routes and costs just £8 per adult. Walks usually take place on the first and last Friday of each month.

Get ready for some Halloween fun at Kiplin Hall with a spooky outdoor trail through the Haunted Woodland from 16 October.

Families can discover tales of wolves, witches, ghosts and ghouls as they explore the woodland trail. The event is aimed at younger children and dressing up is encouraged!

If you’re looking for something a little less spooky, don’t worry. The Halloween displays are confined to the woodland, while the Hall, lakeside paths and parkland routes remain Halloween-free.

Mother Shiptons Cave Halloween Events in North Yorkshire

Prepare to be spellbound at Mother Shipton’s Cave in Knaresborough this Halloween from 24 October.

Inspired by Hocus Pocus, the attraction will be transformed with witches, cauldrons and magical mischief. Keep an eye out for the iconic witchy sister trio as they conjure chaos throughout the woodland.

Visitors can meet the characters, join their coven and capture a magical Halloween photo along the way.

The Great Yorkshire Pumpkin Festival

Monk Park Farm is bringing thousands of pumpkins, live entertainment, carnival games and plenty of autumnal fun to its Great Yorkshire Pumpkin Festival.

Farm admission and entry to the Pumpkin Patch are included in your ticket, and every ticket includes a voucher for a small pumpkin to take home, with the option to upgrade.

This Halloween from 10 October, Lightwater Valley is going to the movies – and things are about to get a little spooky!

Enjoy a day packed with Halloween entertainment, including movie-inspired characters on Icon Avenue, spooky soft play, the famous Trick or Treat Trail, live pirate entertainment and Trick or Treat Doors.

For those brave enough, there’s also a terrifying Live Scare Maze. Once the scares are over, finish the day with DJ Scream and a dance party featuring favourite movie theme tunes.
