The World Jam Festival is back and calling on preserve enthusiasts to take part in this year’s competition, held at the stunning Newby Hall near Ripon on Sunday, September 28.
Founded in 2019 by Anna Lupton, owner of Carr House Farm Bed & Breakfast in Ampleforth, the festival celebrates the craft of jam-making, from traditional techniques to bold flavour experiments. This year’s categories include ‘Tipsy’ jams infused with alcohol, ‘Exotic’ blends featuring unusual ingredients, and an ‘Under 20’ class to encourage younger entrants.
Jams will be judged by a panel that includes Yorkshire-based chefs, and all entries will be displayed in the elegant Grantham Room at Newby Hall. Both individual and commercial makers are welcome, with the top prize offering the chance to sell the winning jam at Newby Hall for a full year.
Entry fees are £7 for one jam or £10 for two for non-commercial entrants, and £15 per jam for commercial entries. All participants receive free admission to the festival and the award-winning Newby Hall gardens, with a discounted £10 ticket available for one guest per entrant.
Alongside the competition, festival-goers can enjoy a range of stalls, live music from Harrogate Spa Uke’s and themed entertainment including a costume contest for adults and children. Guests are encouraged to dress in Alice in Wonderland or Steampunk attire, with prizes awarded in the Walled Garden.
Entries close on September 1. For full details and to enter, visit www.worldjamfestival.com.
