Here’s a quick round-up of important updates from local emergency services — including how your video doorbell could help solve crime and an opportunity to shape the future of North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.
Register Your CCTV or Video Doorbell: Help Fight Crime in Your Area
If you have CCTV or a video doorbell, did you know you can register it with the police?
By adding your details to the system, you’ll help investigators quickly identify any nearby cameras that could contain evidence after a crime — saving time, improving response and increasing the chances of catching those responsible.
Registered systems also make it much easier to securely submit footage to the police when needed. Whether it’s deterring anti-social behaviour or helping officers solve a case, your camera could make a real difference.
Registering is quick and simple – just head to the North Yorkshire Police Digital Evidence page to get started.
Have Your Say: Fire & Rescue Consultation for 2025–2029
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is asking residents to help shape its Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) for 2025–2029 — and now is your chance to have your say.
The CRMP sets out how the service will use its people, equipment and stations to respond to risk over the next four years. The Service is proposing key priorities, such as:
- Strengthening partnerships to support vulnerable people
- Enhancing firefighter training
- Reviewing stations and specialist vehicles to ensure resources are where they’re needed most
- Upgrading buildings in Northallerton, Malton and Scarborough
Two specific changes are also under consultation:
Automatic Fire Alarms: Extending the policy of not responding to commercial automatic alarms (when no one sleeps in the building) from 12 to 24 hours a day — to reduce false callouts and free up crews for prevention and community safety.
Water Bowser Replacement: Replacing one of the Service’s two water bowsers, saving £500,000 that could be invested into more modern wildfire solutions.
The consultation is open until 11:59pm on Sunday 7th September 2025, and all responses are anonymous.
