Active North Yorkshire Ripon – The Jack Laugher Centre has reopened following a £23 million refurbishment, offering a range of modern facilities for the local community.
The lower ground floor has been completely transformed, with new exercise studios, modern changing rooms and a full fitness programme offering up to 85 classes each week. An immersive cycling studio will also be opening soon and the renovated sports hall will also be available for bookings.
Visitors can also enjoy a 25-metre, six-lane swimming pool, a 55-station gym with the latest Technogym strength and cardio equipment, a sauna and steam room, a main entrance and lobby with poolside viewing, and an outdoor children’s play area.
Councillor Simon Myers said:
“This is a wonderful moment for residents in Ripon and surrounding areas who now have access to these high-quality, modern facilities. I’m delighted that the leisure centre in Ripon has now been brought in line with our other Active North Yorkshire facilities in neighbouring towns, providing a first-class health and wellbeing hub that will support communities to be more active.”
Olympian Jack Laugher MBE, who grew up in the area and learnt to swim at the centre, attended the reopening. He said: “I am so proud to be here at the re-opening as it means a great deal to me being in my home city. My journey began in Ripon as I learnt to swim here before achieving so much success in my sport. But this is not just about elite sport, this is about engaging with all communities to be able to improve their health and wellbeing in such a fantastic new venue.”
The upgraded facilities are now open to the public, providing a range of options for exercise, leisure and family activities in Ripon. Find out more.
