Black Sheep Brewery and Visitor Centre is at the heart of Masham, and their beer tastes best right from the source!

The Black Sheep Brewery Visitor Centre is a prime location for sampling!  Take tour of the brewery to find out how the brewing process works then enjoy the Black Sheep ‘baa…r’ – fully stocked with all their iconic Yorkshire beers. There’s proper Yorkshire food straight from the kitchen is available from our stellar team of chefs, perfect after a tour of the brewery and the Sheepy Shop is an opportunity to stock up on all your favourites.

As well as the Brewery tour, you can find out more about the brewing heritage of Masham and much more by taking part in one of our Peculier Guided History Tours.

How did you come to run the business?

Black Sheep was established in 1992 by Paul Theakston when the family brewery T&R Theakston, was sold to a national brewery.

Top sellers:

Black Sheep Ale.

Most peculier product:

Riggwelter Strong Dark Ale –clocking in at 5.9%. So named after the local Yorkshire Dales farming term ‘riggwelted’, where a sheep has rolled onto its back and is unable to get back up – so you might be able to guess why!

What makes Masham peculier?

We have 2 amazing breweries in the middle of a small market town..

What makes your business special?

As our name implies, we go our own way and brew a different type of beer.

Famous customers:

Rob Burrows, Patrick Stewart, Michael Palin, The Yorkshire Vet, Matt Baker and many more…

Favourite place:

Swinton Park for a real treat or the nature reserve.

Insider tip:

Masham is a town not a village and locals get fairly animated if you get this wrong..
