Here’s a round-up of some recent updates from Cllr Felicity Cunliffe-Lister, covering local improvements, infrastructure developments, and opportunities for community input.
Highways Improvements at Gun Bank
Good news for residents around Gun Bank — recent highway works have now been completed. While this was a patch repair rather than a full resurfacing, it marks a positive step forward. The road is now officially recognised as highway land, which means ongoing maintenance responsibilities are clearer. Do note that a short stretch at the end remains private.
Fearby Drains Progress
Efforts to address drainage issues in Fearby continue. While the full funding won’t be confirmed until November, preparatory work is under way. A design has been commissioned and a works order is in place to clear and jet gullies in the meantime.
Ripon Bus Station: Mobility Hub Plans
Proposals are in motion to upgrade Ripon’s bus station into a more modern “mobility hub” — an initiative intended to future-proof transport in and around the city. Cllr Cunliffe-Lister is working to ensure plans reflect local needs, including:
- Capacity for future bus routes as housing expands
- Links to cycle infrastructure (such as the Ripon to Fountains Abbey route)
- Potential connections to Thirsk railway station
Ripon to Fountains Abbey Cycle Route
The long-awaited Ripon to Fountains Abbey cycling route is now in the hands of consultants. A stakeholder meeting is scheduled for early August, with a final report expected by the end of October. This forms part of broader efforts to improve safe, active travel in the area.
Nature Recovery Consultation Open
North Yorkshire & York’s draft Local Nature Recovery Strategy is now open for public consultation. This strategy aims to protect and restore natural habitats, identifying the best opportunities for improving biodiversity and environmental health in our region.
🗓 Open until 11 August 2025
