David Skaith, the Mayor for York and North Yorkshire, is asking for the public’s views before he sets the amount that goes to North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service from York and North Yorkshire’s council tax bill. Please take a few moments and share your views with him
Background
Each year, the Mayor decides on how much to invest in our police and fire services. For the police service this will make up 45% of their budget and for the fire service it makes up 67% of their budget. The rest of the budget for these services comes from the national government. Please take a few minutes to have your say on how much of an increase you would accept as part of the council tax bill.
We want to ensure all voices are heard and everyone who lives, works, or travels to York & North Yorkshire is represented and has a chance to voice their opinions.
The principles on which the Mayor plans to make his final decision are:
· The minimum possible burden on local taxpayers
· Having effective, well managed public services that keep people safe and deliver value for money
· Delivering on local public priorities for both services, including improving the safety of our roads
In the survey you can also let us know if you agree with these principles.
