A major upgrade at Ripon’s leisure centre is almost complete, with brand-new facilities set to reopen this September — including a dedicated cycling studio, modernised changing rooms, exercise studios, and a refurbished sports hall.
Now known as Active North Yorkshire Ripon – The Jack Laugher Centre, the venue has undergone significant structural work and refurbishment. Earlier delays caused by ground instability in 2019 meant complex groundwork was needed to secure the building’s future — but the long-awaited improvements are now in their final stages.
Cllr Myers said: “This has been a challenging scheme, but it is one we committed to as it ensures a vital facility will continue to be available for the benefit of residents of Ripon and beyond. We are promoting health and wellbeing for our communities with the launch of Active North Yorkshire, which will mean that all of our leisure centres are managed by ourselves to ensure that there is a coordinated approach for our service across the whole of the county for the first time.”
The newly renovated lower ground floor adds to the already impressive offering, including:
- A 25m six-lane swimming pool
- A state-of-the-art 55-station gym
- Sauna and steam room
- A welcoming lobby with poolside viewing
- Outdoor children’s play area
- Accessible changing village and pool hoists
Get active this summer
While final renovations are underway, there’s still plenty happening at the centre this summer. Kids can dive into fun swimming sessions during the school holidays:
- Rafts – Monday to Friday, 2:15pm to 3:45pm
- Inflatables – Saturday & Sunday, 2:30pm to 3:45pm
(Note: Adults over 16 must accompany a child aged 15 or under)
The centre also offers a wide range of exercise classes for all levels — from energising LES MILLS BODYPUMP™ and RPM™, to Aquafit, Pilates, Bootcamp, Zumba, and several styles of yoga. Find out more.
