1941 war weapons week Masham’s intention to buy a night fighter at £15,000 probably a night fighter was chosen because only months before Masham had suffered the parachute mine bombing and 6 casualties. First day of fundraising £82,000 total at end of the week £172.071 the highest amount raised by a town per head of population £79 for every man woman and child in Mashamshire it set a record not beaten in World war 2 and still stands. Later in the war Masham raised further money for a tank. So lets celebrate on Sunday 4th May Masham will mark the 80th anniversary of the end of world war 2 with a grand parade and a bring your own BBQ on the square with music in the evening.
